So you’ve just returned your rental item? And you’re probably wondering when you’ll receive your bond money back? Don’t worry, _[Gecko](https://gecko.rent)_ 🦎 has your back.

We’ve processed 1000s of deposits before, so we understand how confusing it can be when you don't see your deposit back. We’ll clarify all the things you need to know when it comes to your bond!

## **What is a bond?** 🔒

A bond is an additional deposit you pay to the rental business for the item that you are borrowing. This is to ensure we implement appropriate measures for rental businesses in the case that the item comes back damaged or missing. In the case that the product comes back damaged or missing, the lender will decide if you’re eligible for a partial or no refund.

## **What’s the steps of getting my bond back?** 💵

1. You’ve returned the item to the rental business in its original condition
2. The rental business will mark the transaction as completed
3. Your deposit will be returned to your associated bank account within _[3-5 business days](https://support.stripe.com/questions/customer-refund-processing-time)_ depending on your bank:

Alternatively, if the lender fails to mark the transaction as completed: 4. After a week, _[Gecko](https://gecko.rent)_ will examine the pending transactions and have it approved 5. Your deposit will be returned to your associated bank account within 3-5 business days depending on your bank

🥳Congratulations, you can kick your feet up and rest assured knowing when and how you’re deposit will come back!

## **Wait, what happens if I accidentally damage the item I hired?**

Alternatively, the rental business will report the incident to _[Gecko](https://gecko.rent)_ within 1 week after you’ve returned the item. They will determine how much deposit they will take from; whether it’s a partial or no return. The deposit will be charged, meaning that you aren’t eligible for a full deposit return. In this scenario, you won’t have to do anything else so you don't have to worry about providing any other details.

## **How can I trust in getting my bond back?**

_[Gecko](https://gecko.rent)_ uses a secure payment provider called **Stripe** to ensure that our borrowers’ and rental businesses’ personal information and bank details are kept securely on file. We use _[Stripe Radar](https://stripe.com/en-au/radar)_, a feature that uses advanced machine learning to help against _[fraud protection](https://stripe.com/docs/disputes/prevention)_ so you don’t have to worry about the potential loss of your money.

Where to rent cheap speakers


**Our Cancellation Policy**

What happens if I **don’t** want to hire those speakers anymore? Will I get **charged?** And how much? 😓

At Gecko, we have our **cancellation policy** to ensure the **protection** of both our **borrowers** and **lenders**. Here’s how it works:

Borrowers are provided with the following options:

1. **Free Cancellation** 😌
2. **48 Hour Cancellation** 🕐
3. **24 Hour Cancellation** ⏰
4. **3 Hour Cancellation** 🕝

**Free Cancellation (Before the 48 Hour Period) 😌:**

If the borrower chooses to cancel anytime **before** the **48 hour period** of the item being agreed to be picked-up or delivered, it can be cancelled **without** any **charges** or **fees** 😎. The borrower is then eligible for a full refund. 😇

**48 Hour Cancellation (Fee of 50%) 🕐:**

If the borrower chooses to notify the lender or company to cancel borrowing an item **within 48 hours** 🕐 of arranged pickup or delivery, a **cancellation fee** of **50%** will be deducted from the funds held in **Gecko’s stripe account.**

**24 Hour Cancellation (Fee of 100%) ⏰:**

If the borrower chooses to notify the lender or company to cancel borrowing an item **within 24 hours** 🕐 of arranged pick up or delivery, a **cancellation fee of 100%** will be deducted from the funds held in **Gecko’s stripe account 😰.**

**3 Hour Cancellation (For Bookings made within 48 Hours) 🕝:**

If the borrower has made a booking **within 48 hours** 🕝 and decides to **cancel** their booking already, we have provided a **3 hour time window 🕖** to notify the lender or the company of the **cancellation**. However, if they **fail** to **cancel** their booking within the **3 hour window 🕖**, the above mentioned **cancellation period policies 📑** will be in place.

**3. Send us an email 📧** The more detailed the better! We want to help you ASAP! In the email, these are a few things that you should include:

- A detailed explanation of the situation (We want to know what happened so we can try to help you out as much as we can).

- Evidence! Screenshots of not getting replies on the Gecko page or anything that will show that they are not responsive.

**4. Full refund! 💸** Once we have verified everything, an email will be sent out that outline the process of getting your money back!

What happens If I don't get my item?


At Gecko, we understand accidents do happen sometimes, and it can become a stressful situation for both our borrowers and the lenders. That’s why we are here to help!

When borrowing, you’ll be charged for the bond and the price of the item. The bond price is there to protect the borrowed item in case accidents happen.

So what’s the process from here:

1. The bond taken from the borrower’s account is placed in a “pending transaction”, which only Gecko, our payment provider (Stripe), and the bank can access.
2. When accidents occur, we will ask the lender for before and after photos for photographic proof when the borrowed item is returned.
3. Gecko will ask the lender to provide us with a quote on how much it will be to fix the damages.
4. The bond is released from the “pending” state in your account to the lender’s account to help pay for the damages.
5. \*With the leftover money, depending on the circumstances, we will give a portion of the money to the lender to make up for the lost sales while it is getting repaired.
6. If there is leftover money from the bond, it will be released back into the borrower’s account.

Gecko’s bond process is there to protect the lender’s items, and also help the borrower in sticky situations like these. Our secure bond process aims to create an enjoyable rental experience for everyone!

\*NOTE: This type of case is highly dependent on each situation and circumstance. Most of the time, the left-over money will be given back to the borrower, however, it depends on the circumstance.

Last year, Brigid had a lot of unused items that were just gathering dust in her home and storage space. From all of us at Gecko we want to say a HUGE thank you to you, our awesome customers! 🥳

Since our launch in September 2019, we are pretty proud of all we have achieved!

Today we’re going to run you through the most important steps for you to get the most bang for your buck!

### **1. Is it in the right category?**

This may seem like an obvious question, but is your item actually in the right category? Someone would expect to find a dress, costume and shoes in the ‘clothes and accessories’ category so be sure to put it in there!

### **2. Make sure someone would actually search for that title**

Again, if someone you wouldn’t think to search for something ‘Beautiful dress from TopShop’s Seventeenth Annual Spring Collection’ (you get our point!) then it’s probably best not to list it as that…

Most of the time people search for broad terms such as “formal dress”, “black dress” and so forth, so be sure to have some key terms within your listing so that it can be found easily!

### **3. Is your price appropriate?**

Yes, there is such a thing as too cheap. If you have a product that you spent a few pay checks saving up for, then be sure to list it for a little bit extra.

Is the dress ‘true to size’ or is it stretchy? Do those 150 chairs you’ve listed need to be transported via a larger van opposed to a car?

If there’s something you’d want to know about the product, prior to borrowing it, then be sure to add it!

### **5. Upload in a square format**

We always recommend uploading your listing in a square format to allow our borrowers to see the whole item in its truest form.

After all, you work those angles, why shouldn’t your product?!

### **6. Show the product while it’s in use**

Show us your candid shots! That photo of you in the Nemo costume or that adorable shot of the donut wall at a baby shower, are always the listings that get the most hits!

So, go ahead. Upload that somewhat cringeworthy photo of you in the banana costume and give the people what they want!

### **7. Stock images aren’t the best**

Candid shots are where it’s at. One sneaky Uber here, another Ola ride there… they all add up over time and can have a damaging impact on the environment due to the emissions they omit.

Why not opt for the increasingly popular 30-minute rule? If your destination is under 30 minutes to walk or ride to, then do so!

If this method isn’t your jam though, try to opt for public transport. It’s much cheaper than the ride sharing apps not to mention having to fill up for petrol!
